Why is it called a retriever leash?
- All 6 retriever breeds are hunting dogs that were originally bred for their work with a hunter or forester and are still used for this purpose today.

Thus, the retriever leash was actually only intended for retrievers.
- This type of leash was invented for the work of retrievers "after the shot", so to speak.
- For this work - i.e. retrieving small and feathered game - the dogs have to go into the water, through tall vegetation, thorns, undergrowth, etc.
- They therefore have to cross rough terrain in which they could get stuck and strangle themselves if they were wearing a collar.
- To avoid the risk of injury and getting caught, a collar is not used.
